It is the policy of the city government of Tanauan to develop the Physical and social well being of the Tanaueños through skills development and provision of sports and recreational facilities. In so doing, it promotes physical education and encourages sports programs, league competitions and amateur sports, including training for international competitions, to help sports minded people gain self value & esteem, built confidence & determination, and make a successful career in the sports industry.

The present administration sees there is much more that can be done in schools and outside the education system to encourage healthy lifestyles from all walks of life which include a fun, sports element.  For several years now the city government has implemented sports development programs intended for its constituent.

To date, the Jose P. Laurel Memorial Gymnasium (Gym I), at Poblacion II, has become the venue of numerous sports events such as Inter Barangay Basketball Tournament, PBL games which is a professional competition participated by several teams. Social events such as the annual ball of I DO Club as well as other social activities are being held in this gymnasium. Furthermore, the gym can be converted to a venue for stage plays and production numbers since it has a stage located at the far end of the building. The building is equipped with eight (8) heavy duty air conditioning units to augment the atmosphere of the place.

The Speaker Jose B. Laurel Gymnasium (Gym II) located at the back of the City Hall also serves as the venue for athletic meets in the District division within the city as well as the Inter LGU Sports competition which is an annual competition for the Local Government Units. The size of the gym can accommodate a basketball, volley ball and badminton courts as well.

As shown in the graph above, every barangay has a multi purpose hall not just to accommodate meetings but social events within the barangay level as well. There are forty six (46) courts that can be utilized as either basketball or volleyball court. A softball/baseball diamond located at Barangay Altura South serves as the practice venue for our baseball team which has brought forth so much recognition worldwide that it is now considered as one of the top teams to watch out. Several schools are equipped with football fields and pools for competitive purposes. A tennis court located at the back of the Legislative building accommodates athletes and tennis club members who wish to harness their skill in the field of sport.

The Mabini Plaza was rehabilitated to suit the outdoor activities of the city. These include trade fairs, concerts and beauty pageants. It is also considered as a park where people do most of their recreation and pleasant time.

The Gov. Modesto Castillo Cultural Center that is located at Barangay Poblacion I is being rehabilitated to accommodate occasions of all type.

Several private resorts are already visible in the city which makes it convenient for the communities to enjoy and come to the resorts any time they want. Resorts are listed below:

The newly built Walter Mart located at Barangay Darasa provides convenience to the people since facilities include theater, convenient stores, boutiques, restaurants, all packaged into one place.

Ang pangalan mo'y kumikinang, Ang bantayog mo'y kaunlaran
At sa'yong sinapupunan Kami;y ganto mong iningatan
Dangal ka ng bayang Batangan at perlas ka ng Silangan
Babaunin ko kailan pa man Tanauan kong bayan

Tanauan, Bayang Tanauan Ika'y higit na yaman
Tanauan, Bayang Tanauan, Ika'y silbing kanlungan

Maharlikang dugo'y iaalay Mapatid mang itong buhay
Huling lakas man ay ibibigay Mahal kitang tunay

Tanauan, Bayang Tanauan Ika'y higit na yaman
Tanauan, Bayang Tanauan, Ika'y silbing kanlungan
Tanauan, Bayang Tanauan Ika'y hindi iiwan
Bayang kong kinagisnan sapul sa pagsilang

Tanauan, Bayang Tanauan Ika'y higit na yaman
Tanauan, Bayang Tanauan, Ika'y silbing kanlungan
Tanauan, Bayang Tanauan Ika'y hindi iiwan
Bayang kong kinagisnan sapul sa pagsilang

Peace and Order is of vital importance in every community. Safety is included in Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs that one needs to satisfy after the physiological needs. That is how important safety is to every human being, this being the case the government is giving prime significance in maintaining the peace and order situation in every locality.

For the City of Tanauan, there is the active presence of the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and Bureau of Fire Protection.

The Tanauan City main PNP headquarter is located at #142, Mt. View Subdivision, F Platon St., Brgy. Poblacion 3 within the premises of the city hall and with a total land area of 162 square meters. It has three (3) sub stations located at Barangay Sambat , at  the intersection of JP Laurel highway and A. Mabini Ave., and at Barangay Ulango. Ideally, the minimum standard police-population ratio is 1: 1000, however the table below shows the active PNP personnel at Tanauan City for the last three years indicates that there is a need for more policemen in the city.

Although there is an increase in the number of PNP personnel from 2007 to 2009, it still cannot accommodate the increasing population. Following the ideal police to population ratio of 1:1000, for 2009 given the population of 150,596 for the said year, there is a need for 150 policemen. Clearly, the table above reflects the need for 74 more policemen for the year 2009. At present, a single police officer is taking care of the safety of the 1,982 civilians.

To augment the situation, the barangay safety officers (barangay tanod) as well as Lupong Tagapamayapa are actively participating in keeping the peace and order situation within their barangay. Specifically, the barangay tanod patrols the barangay against lawless individuals while the Lupong Tagapamayapa settles the cases which can be decided within the barangay level. Furthermore, Barangays are equipped with barangay vehicle to carry out services. This is also done to prevent jail congestion for petty crimes/offenses.  Table 2 shows the number of personnel doing the said functions.
